On this page

For a trip to South Korea only, choose South Korea eSIM Premium if you want LG U+ and SK Telecom on 4G and 5G, a Singapore IP address and 90 days from purchase to start the plan. Choose South Korea eSIM if you want to be able to top up any plan, including one with a single data allowance; it uses KT on 4G and LG U+ on 4G and 5G. If Korea is one stop on a longer trip, the China, Japan & South Korea eSIM or the Asia 15 and Asia 28 eSIMs cover it on LG U+ and SK Telecom, so one install can cover several countries.

All five plans start when they first connect to a network in a country they cover, so you can install yours at home before you fly. Compare prices for the same data and days on the South Korea eSIM plans page, because they change.

The five plans that cover South Korea

These facts come from our South Korea destination page and the five product pages, checked on 5 November 2026. Each plan page is the final word if anything changes.

Plan Countries Networks in South Korea IP location Start window
South Korea eSIM South Korea KT 4G, LG U+ 4G/5G Hong Kong or Singapore Starts on first connection; use within 60 days of purchase
South Korea eSIM Premium South Korea LG U+ and SK Telecom, both 4G/5G Singapore Starts on first connection; use within 90 days of purchase
China, Japan & South Korea eSIM South Korea, Japan and China LG U+ and SK Telecom, both 4G/5G Singapore Starts on first connection; use within 90 days of purchase
Asia 15 eSIM 15 countries, including South Korea LG U+ and SK Telecom, both 4G/5G Singapore Starts on first connection; use within 90 days of purchase
Asia 28 eSIM 28 countries, including South Korea LG U+ and SK Telecom, both 4G/5G Singapore Starts on first connection; use within 90 days of purchase

Every plan page adds the same caution: the networks are set by the mobile service and can change without notice, and coverage depends on the network in the area, your phone and other conditions, with 5G where available and 4G otherwise.

All five allow hotspot and are data only, with no calls or SMS on the plan. If you need your Malaysian number for calls and SMS codes, keep that line on alongside the eSIM; data-only eSIMs: calls, SMS and WhatsApp explains the setup, and keeping your Malaysian number for bank TAC covers bank codes.

Daily data or one allowance

Each plan comes in two shapes. A daily plan gives you a fresh allowance every 24 hours from activation, and unused daily data does not roll over. A one-allowance plan gives you a single amount of data for the whole validity period.

Plan Daily options After the day’s data One-allowance options After the allowance Top-up
South Korea eSIM 500 MB, 1 GB or 2 GB a day, 1 to 30 days Slows to 384 kbps until the daily reset 1 GB to 50 GB, 7 to 30 days The connection ends Available on every plan
South Korea eSIM Premium 500 MB to 3 GB a day, 1 to 30 days Slows to 128 kbps until the daily reset 1 GB to 50 GB, 7 to 30 days 1 GB and 2 GB plans end the connection; 3 GB and larger slow to 128 kbps Daily plans only
China, Japan & South Korea, Asia 15 and Asia 28 500 MB to 3 GB a day, 1 to 30 days Slows to 128 kbps until the daily reset 1 GB to 50 GB, 7 to 30 days 1 GB and 2 GB plans end the connection; 3 GB and larger slow to 128 kbps Daily plans only

The slower speed after a daily allowance is a fair-use limit, not more full-speed data. The destination page says it is enough for messages but too slow for video. Our fair-use worksheet explains how to compare these limits between plans.

How much data you need depends on how you use your phone, not on the destination. Work it out from your own usage with the travel eSIM data budget worksheet, then pick the plan shape:

  • Daily suits days that look alike, and a heavy day cannot eat into the next.
  • One allowance suits uneven days. Every South Korea eSIM plan can be topped up; on the other four, a one-allowance plan cannot, so choose enough when you buy.

Choose in four questions

  1. Is South Korea your only country? If yes, compare the two Korea plans. If Japan or China is on the same trip, look at the China, Japan & South Korea eSIM. For more of Asia, open the Asia 15 or Asia 28 coverage list and find every stop by name. Neither Asia plan covers Singapore.
  2. Which networks do you want? Premium and the three regional plans list LG U+ and SK Telecom. The South Korea eSIM lists KT on 4G and LG U+ on 4G and 5G. We do not rank the networks; the list tells you which ones the eSIM can use.
  3. Might you need to add data mid-trip? The South Korea eSIM can be topped up on every plan. On the other four, only daily plans can.
  4. Does the IP location matter to you? None of the five gives you a Korean IP address. The South Korea eSIM may use Hong Kong or Singapore, and its page warns that TikTok, ChatGPT and other apps restricted in Hong Kong may not work while it uses the Hong Kong IP. The other four connect through Singapore.

Also check the start window if you buy early: Premium and the regional plans give you 90 days from purchase to start, and the South Korea eSIM gives you 60.

Decision table

Your trip Start with
South Korea only, and you want LG U+ and SK Telecom on 4G and 5G South Korea eSIM Premium
South Korea only, and you want to be able to top up a one-allowance plan South Korea eSIM
You rely on an app that is restricted in Hong Kong South Korea eSIM Premium, or a regional plan that connects through Singapore
You are buying more than 60 days before the plan should start South Korea eSIM Premium or a regional plan, with 90 days to start
South Korea with Japan, China or both China, Japan & South Korea eSIM
South Korea with other Asian countries Asia 15 or Asia 28, after checking every stop on its coverage list

For a trip through Japan, Korea and China, One eSIM for Japan, South Korea and China walks through the per-stop checks, such as which plan gives a Japanese IP address.

Install before you fly, start when you land

All five start when they first connect in a covered country, and each page says you can install the eSIM and turn it off while you are outside its coverage. Install at home over Wi-Fi, label the line, and switch it on after landing. The South Korea eSIM page also says to turn data roaming on for that plan after you arrive. Follow the instructions in your delivery email and the eSIM installation guide.

To top up an eligible plan during the trip, use the top-up page. For the airport-to-hotel part of the trip, the Incheon and Gimpo arrival guide covers trains, map apps and an offline arrival note.

Common questions

Which is the best South Korea eSIM?

It depends on what you need. Choose South Korea eSIM Premium for LG U+ and SK Telecom on 4G and 5G, a Singapore IP and 90 days to start. Choose South Korea eSIM if you want top-ups on every plan, including one-allowance plans. If your trip continues to Japan, China or other Asian countries, compare the regional plans that include Korea.

Does a South Korea eSIM give me a Korean IP address?

No. Premium and the three regional plans connect through Singapore, and the South Korea eSIM through Hong Kong or Singapore, so websites see that location rather than a Korean one. It does not change your phone’s GPS location.

Is there one eSIM for South Korea and Japan?

Yes. The China, Japan & South Korea eSIM covers all three countries, and the Asia 15 and Asia 28 eSIMs also list South Korea and Japan. All three use LG U+ and SK Telecom in Korea and KDDI and SoftBank in Japan.

What happens when I use up my daily data in Korea?

Your speed drops until the next day’s data arrives, 24 hours after the plan started: to 384 kbps on the South Korea eSIM and to 128 kbps on Premium and the regional plans. Unused daily data does not roll over.

Can I top up a South Korea eSIM?

Every South Korea eSIM plan can be topped up. On Premium and the regional plans, daily plans can be topped up and one-allowance plans cannot.

When should I install my South Korea eSIM?

Any time before you fly, as long as you start it within the window: 90 days from purchase for Premium and the regional plans, 60 days for the South Korea eSIM. The days begin when the eSIM first connects in a covered country.
