Which Bali and Indonesia eSIM should I choose?
Compare eSIMs for Bali and Indonesia: the Indonesia plan on four networks or a regional plan, with IP location, top-up and start window side by side.

On this page
For a trip to Bali or anywhere else in Indonesia, choose Indonesia eSIM if Indonesia is your only country: it lists Telkomsel, Indosat, XLSmart and Smartfren and connects through Singapore. Choose a regional plan only if your trip continues to other countries, such as Southeast Asia 5, Asia 15 or Asia 28, and check every stop by name on its coverage list first.
All six plans start when they first connect to a network in a country they cover, so you can install yours at home before you fly. Compare prices for the same data and days on the Indonesia eSIM plans page, because they change.
Which plans cover Bali and the rest of Indonesia?
These facts come from our Indonesia destination page, checked on 7 November 2026. The plan page is the final word if anything changes. Our page says Indonesia eSIM works across Indonesia, including Bali; on small islands and boat trips signal can drop, so download offline maps before you go.
| Plan | Countries | Networks in Indonesia | IP location | Start window |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Indonesia eSIM | Indonesia | Indosat, Smartfren, Telkomsel, XLSmart (4G/5G on each) | Singapore | Starts on first connection; use within 90 days of purchase |
| Brunei, Indonesia & Malaysia eSIM | 3 countries | Indosat, Smartfren, Telkomsel, XLSmart | Singapore | Starts on first connection; use within 90 days of purchase |
| Asia 15 eSIM | 15 countries | Indosat, Smartfren, Telkomsel, XLSmart | Singapore | Starts on first connection; use within 90 days of purchase |
| Asia 28 eSIM | 28 countries | Indosat, Smartfren, Telkomsel, XLSmart | Singapore | Starts on first connection; use within 90 days of purchase |
| Southeast Asia 5 eSIM | Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam | Telkomsel and XLSmart | Hong Kong or Singapore | Starts on first connection; use within 90 days of purchase |
| Amazing Southeast Asia eSIM | 7 countries | Telkomsel | Hong Kong | Starts on first connection; use within 180 days of purchase |
Every plan page adds the same caution: the networks are set by the mobile service and can change without notice, and coverage depends on the network in the area, your phone and other conditions. The pages say 5G where available, otherwise 4G. We do not rank the networks against each other; the list tells you which ones the eSIM can use.
All six allow hotspot and are data only, with no calls or SMS on the plan. If you need to receive calls or text codes on your home number, keep your home SIM on alongside the eSIM; data-only eSIMs: calls, SMS and WhatsApp explains the setup, and keeping a Malaysian number for bank codes is one worked example.
Daily data or one allowance?
Most plans come in two shapes. A daily plan gives you a fresh allowance every day, and unused daily data does not roll over. A one-allowance plan gives you a single amount of data for the whole validity period.
| Plan | Daily options | After the day’s data | One-allowance options | After the allowance | Top-up |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Indonesia eSIM | 500 MB to 3 GB a day, 1 to 30 days | Slows to 128 kbps until the daily reset | 1 GB to 50 GB, 7 to 30 days | 1 GB and 2 GB plans end the connection; 3 GB and larger slow to 128 kbps | Daily plans only |
| Brunei, Indonesia & Malaysia, Asia 15 and Asia 28 | 500 MB to 3 GB a day, 1 to 30 days | Slows to 128 kbps until the daily reset | 1 GB to 50 GB, 7 to 30 days | 1 GB and 2 GB plans end the connection; 3 GB and larger slow to 128 kbps | Daily plans only |
| Southeast Asia 5 | 500 MB to 3 GB a day, 1 to 30 days | Slows to 128 kbps until the daily reset | 1 GB to 50 GB, 7 to 30 days | 1 GB and 2 GB plans end the connection; 3 GB and larger slow to 128 kbps | Daily plans only |
| Amazing Southeast Asia | None | Not applicable | 1 GB to 50 GB, 7 to 180 days | The connection ends | Available |
The slower speed after a daily allowance is a fair-use limit, not more full-speed data. Our Indonesia page says 128 kbps is enough for messages but too slow for video. Our fair-use worksheet explains how to compare these limits between plans.
How much data you need depends on how you use your phone, not on the destination. Work it out with the travel eSIM data budget worksheet, then pick the shape:
- Daily suits days that look alike, such as maps and messages every day. A daily plan can be topped up on the Indonesia plans, so it also gives you a fallback.
- One allowance suits uneven days, such as a day of video calls followed by quiet beach days. On every plan except Amazing Southeast Asia it cannot be topped up, so choose enough when you buy.
The day’s reset is not the same everywhere. Indonesia eSIM and the Asia plans reset 24 hours after activation. Southeast Asia 5 resets at midnight GMT+8, and its first day starts when the eSIM first connects, so day one can be just a few hours.
How do I choose in four questions?
- Is Indonesia your only country? If yes, start with Indonesia eSIM. If you are also visiting Malaysia and Brunei, look at Brunei, Indonesia & Malaysia. For Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia or Singapore on the same trip, look at Southeast Asia 5. Neither Asia 15 nor Asia 28 covers Singapore, and Southeast Asia 5 does not cover Hong Kong.
- Which networks can you use? Indonesia eSIM, Brunei, Indonesia & Malaysia, Asia 15 and Asia 28 all list Indosat, Smartfren, Telkomsel and XLSmart. Southeast Asia 5 lists Telkomsel and XLSmart. Amazing Southeast Asia lists Telkomsel only.
- Might you need to add data mid-trip? Daily plans can be topped up on the five plans that offer them. Amazing Southeast Asia, which is sold as a total allowance only, can be topped up too.
- Does your IP location matter? None of the six gives you an Indonesian IP address. Websites see Singapore on Indonesia eSIM and the Asia plans, Hong Kong or Singapore on Southeast Asia 5, and Hong Kong on Amazing Southeast Asia. The page says TikTok, ChatGPT and other apps restricted in Hong Kong will not work on Amazing Southeast Asia, and may not work on Southeast Asia 5 when it uses its Hong Kong IP. The IP location does not change your phone’s GPS location.
Also check the start window if you buy early: Amazing Southeast Asia gives you 180 days from purchase to start, and the other five give you 90.
Decision table
| Your trip | Start with |
|---|---|
| Bali or the rest of Indonesia only | Indonesia eSIM |
| You want a fallback if daily data runs short | A daily plan on Indonesia eSIM (daily plans can be topped up) |
| Indonesia with Malaysia and Brunei | Brunei, Indonesia & Malaysia eSIM |
| Indonesia with Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia or Singapore | Southeast Asia 5 eSIM |
| Indonesia as one stop on a longer Asia trip | Asia 15 or Asia 28, after checking every stop by name |
| A long trip with one allowance you can top up | Amazing Southeast Asia eSIM, if the apps you use work with a Hong Kong IP |
| You rely on an app that is restricted in Hong Kong | Indonesia eSIM or an Asia plan, which connect through Singapore |
When should I install, and how do I start?
Every plan starts when it first connects in a covered country, and the page says you can install the eSIM and turn it off while you are outside its coverage. Install at home over Wi-Fi, label the line and switch it on after you land. Follow the instructions in your delivery email and the eSIM installation guide. To add data to an eligible plan during the trip, use the top-up page.

Common questions
Which is the best eSIM for Bali?
It depends on your trip. If Bali or Indonesia is all you are visiting, Indonesia eSIM is the plan built for it, with four listed networks, daily or one-allowance data and a Singapore IP. If you are continuing to other countries, compare the regional plans that list Indonesia.
Does an Indonesia eSIM work in Bali?
Yes. Our Indonesia page says Indonesia eSIM works across Indonesia, including Bali, on Telkomsel, Indosat, XLSmart and Smartfren. On small islands and boat trips signal can drop, so download offline maps before you go.
Does the eSIM include a phone number?
No. Every plan that covers Indonesia is data only, with no calls or SMS. See data-only eSIMs: calls, SMS and WhatsApp for how to use your home number alongside it.
What happens when I use up my daily data?
Your speed drops to 128 kbps until the next daily reset. Unused daily data does not roll over. This is a fair-use limit, not unmetered full-speed data.
Can I top up an Indonesia eSIM?
Daily plans can be topped up on Indonesia eSIM and the regional plans, and Amazing Southeast Asia can be topped up. One-allowance plans on the other plans cannot be.
Can I share data by hotspot?
Yes. Every plan that covers Indonesia allows hotspot, and it uses the same data allowance.
When should I install my eSIM?
Any time before you fly, as long as you start it within the window: 90 days from purchase for five of the plans, 180 days for Amazing Southeast Asia. The days begin when the eSIM first connects in a covered country.
