Vietnam eSIM guide for 2026: Hanoi, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City
How to plan mobile data for a Vietnam trip, with an installation checklist and practical ways to avoid running out between stops.

Vietnam trips often combine dense city days with long transfers: Hanoi’s old quarter, a few nights around Ha Long Bay, central Vietnam, and Ho Chi Minh City can all sit in the same itinerary. A Vietnam eSIM is useful when you want data ready before the first taxi or train, but the plan still needs to match the route.
Choose for the whole itinerary
Maps, translation, ride-hailing, restaurant searches, and payment confirmations are the everyday data users. A small allowance may be enough for light messaging and navigation; photo uploads, video calls, or hotspot use need more. For a multi-stop trip, choose a validity period that covers the actual days you need data, including arrival and departure days.
Coverage is a plan fact, not a promise made by the country name. Read the listed network and coverage details for the plan you are buying. A regional plan may be useful if Vietnam is one stop in a wider Southeast Asia trip, but compare its validity and allowance with a Vietnam-only option before paying.
Install on Wi-Fi before you go
Check the exact phone model and region for eSIM support and confirm that the phone is unlocked. Dial *#06# and look for an EID; do not enter the EID or IMEI into a search box or send it to support.
Install the QR code on home Wi-Fi and label the new profile “Vietnam”. Keep your primary line for calls and texts. When you land, select the travel eSIM for mobile data and enable data roaming for that profile if the delivery instructions require it.
Keep the allowance predictable
Download offline maps for the first city and save hotel addresses before leaving. Use hotel Wi-Fi for large photo backups. If you cross the country by train or bus, top up navigation and translation before a long stretch rather than waiting until the signal is weak.
Do not delete the profile if it stops connecting. Check the device’s selected data line, roaming setting, and network selection first, then use the usage or support path for the order. Many profiles cannot be installed again after deletion.
Vietnam is a good destination for a simple pre-departure setup: install at home, keep the primary SIM intact, and let the plan instructions—not guesswork—decide when the travel line should start.
