From Incheon, Visit Seoul puts the AREX direct train at about 40 minutes to Seoul Station and the regular all-stop train at about 60; the Korea Tourism Organization lists about 43 and 59 minutes from Terminal 1, and about 51 and 66 from Terminal 2. Choose by your accommodation’s station, not by speed alone. If you are still choosing mobile data, see our South Korea eSIM plans.

Start with the last station, then choose the airport train

From Incheon, the airport railway is AREX: a direct train runs non-stop to Seoul Station, and a regular train stops at stations along the way. For a Seoul arrival, prepare the route all the way to your accommodation’s entrance. Save its Korean address, nearest station and useful exit before choosing an airport transfer. Reaching Seoul Station is one stage of the journey; your final destination may need another train or a different transfer altogether.

This guide covers Incheon International Airport and Gimpo Airport arrivals into Seoul. AREX connects both airports with the city, and its regular and direct services serve different needs. The direct train runs between Incheon and Seoul Station only, so at Gimpo the regular train is the AREX option. Use your accommodation’s location to make the choice. Compare the transfer with your luggage in mind

Option What the official guide describes What to decide before departure
AREX regular train Stops along the airport railway, including Gimpo and stations on the way into Seoul. Is an intermediate station convenient for your accommodation or onward transfer?
AREX direct train Connects Incheon Airport and Seoul Station without intermediate city stops. Does reaching Seoul Station simplify the rest of your route?
Airport bus Services from Incheon and Gimpo to Seoul and other areas. Which operator and stop actually serve your address?
Arranged car or taxi A road transfer to the address you supply. Confirm passenger and luggage capacity, meeting instructions and payment with the provider.

The rail and bus distinctions come from Visit Seoul. Check the operator’s current service details for your airport terminal and arrival date. Do the same for your final subway connection; a flight delay can change a workable itinerary. Compare the complete journey, including transfers with bags, rather than selecting a service solely because its destination sounds familiar.

Pay for the train and subway

Visit Korea lists T-money, sold at convenience stores and Seoul subway information centres, as a reloadable card for public transport. It also lists Mpass, a card for foreign visitors that covers the Seoul subway, city buses and AREX (not the direct trains) and is bought with Korean won cash at Tmoney Town near Seoul Station. Its Climate Card page says cards are bought and topped up with cash or a Korea-issued card, and that from 1 October 2026 the card is limited to Seoul. Visit Korea’s transportation cards

The Korea Tourism Organization says direct-train tickets are bought online or at station machines, and the all-stop train can be used with a range of transportation cards. Keep some way to pay that does not depend on your phone. Korea Tourism Organization’s airport guide

If you land late at night

Visit Seoul lists the regular AREX as running from 5:30 a.m. to midnight, noting that this varies by station. The Korea Tourism Organization says most public transport from the airport to central Seoul finishes at around 23:30, and that night buses carry an “N” before the route number and need a ticket bought in advance at a booth or machine (cash and transportation cards are not accepted). Plan around the earlier time, check the operator for your date, and keep a taxi or arranged-transfer fallback with the Korean address.

Check phone services at the airport

Incheon’s convenience-facilities page lists mobile operator roaming centres in Terminal 1, including some on the first floor near Arrival Hall F that are open 24 hours. Compare what each sells, and whether it suits your phone, with an eSIM you set up before you fly. Incheon Airport convenience facilities

Prepare maps you can actually use

Seoul’s city government lists NAVER Map for directions and public transport information, and KakaoMap for maps and directions. The same list names Papago for translation and Kakao T for taxis. Install a suitable option, try searching your accommodation, and check that the place you select matches the booking address. Seoul’s useful mobile app list

Try a complete airport-to-accommodation search before departure. Check the interface language, transfer details and final walk. A familiar map app can still be useful, but verify the particular directions you need instead of assuming every app supplies the same local information.

Save the accommodation name in Korean and English. If a search returns several branches, compare the street address. Ask the property for its preferred station exit and entrance; a correct building pin does not explain which door to use.

Seoul subway exits are numbered, and the official tourism guide explains how to follow line signs for transfers. Put the line, station and exit in your arrival note. Visit Seoul’s subway instructions

Build an arrival note that works offline

Keep these details in a downloaded document or a note stored on your phone:

  • Arrival airport, terminal and flight number.
  • Chosen transport service and destination station or bus stop.
  • Any interchange, onward line and final station exit.
  • Korean accommodation name, full address and entrance instructions.
  • Booking reference, check-in arrangements and a contact channel.
  • A backup transfer to ask about if the planned connection is unavailable.

Save route screenshots and a subway map, then check both offline. Google Maps cannot supply offline walking or transit directions. Google Maps offline limitations

Match the connection to the conversation

Ask your accommodation which contact channel it expects on arrival. If it requires an ordinary telephone call, confirm that your chosen phone service can make it (the plan’s own facts list calls and SMS), or agree an email or app contact instead. Record the contact details in the arrival note so you can find them without searching your inbox.

For installation timing, read the selected package’s activation instructions and our eSIM installation guide. Some plans begin validity at installation, so preparation does not always mean installing immediately.

Once connected after landing, refresh the route and send any expected arrival message before leaving the terminal. If data fails, open the saved note and ask airport or station staff about the transfer you recorded. Keep enough battery to show the destination address at the last stage of the journey.

Common questions

How long is the AREX from Incheon to Seoul Station?

Visit Seoul gives about 40 minutes for the direct train and about 60 for the regular all-stop train. The Korea Tourism Organization lists about 43 and 59 minutes from Terminal 1, and about 51 and 66 from Terminal 2. Check the operator for your date.

Should every traveller take the direct AREX service?

No. Compare the station you need with the regular train’s stops and the onward journey from Seoul Station.

Is there public transport into Seoul after midnight?

Plan around the airport’s earlier end of service: the Korea Tourism Organization says most public transport into central Seoul finishes at around 23:30. Night buses with an “N” route number need a ticket bought in advance, so read its guide and keep a taxi or arranged transfer as a fallback.

Do I need a local map app?

It is useful to prepare an option listed by Seoul’s city government, such as NAVER Map or KakaoMap. Check your exact address and route before relying on any app.

What is the most useful offline backup?

A readable note with the Korean address, final station, exit and accommodation contact instructions, supported by saved route screenshots.
